As a pioneer of playing electronic dance music on the radio, there are many people out there who remember me and enjoyed the music I played back in my WFIT-FM & WA1A-FM  days. I'm back and better than ever, plus reaching a whole new audience. That is because no matter where you live or are, as long as you have internet or a mobile device like a cell phone, you are able to listen. So, what do you get and when & why should you listen?

I am on Saturday from 4-5PM ET. This show gives you a chance to listen to an experienced groundbreaking DJ, mix up cutting edge club music, the type of stuff usually only played at the hottest nightspots, funky late night clubs and exclusive after parties, all with no worries. Simply tune in and kick back, relax and enjoy the vanguard of electronic dance music. You don't have to deal with waiting on lines, paying admission or being a dot in a crowd, just to be able to enjoy the hottest dance music out there. The music is always happening and you and your friends are always on the guest list.

The music is a blend of styles with a constant flow of new tracks released as recently as the past week. The music is both high quality and mainly unique tracks you won't hear elsewhere. I have had a reputation for years, as someone who uncovers tracks that leaves even other experienced DJs going "Where does he come up with this stuff?" The internet has made it possible for me to be even better at what I do. The net is so vast that if you don't have plans and strategies, you will miss a lot and waste hours. The most important part of DJing, is collecting up your music ahead of time. If, when you go to do your set, you have picked a great selection of the hottest dance music, all you need to do is not screw up your presentation and you will be a hit. If you have picked a selection of crap, the smoothest presentation in the universe, won't save you.

When I select the music for the radio mix show, I never use charts, but just go straight to the new release section, on some of the hottest dance music websites around the globe. These sites are hot in terms of consistently having good music, not because they are a big name in music retail, or have the highest sales. Some small specialty sites blow the big boys away when it comes to their specialty. The fact is, there is so much music out there, no site can carry it all, they have to pick and choose. So the first trick is finding sites that make good choices in what they carry. The biggest sites have the greatest access, but even they have to limit what they sell, or be overwhelmed. So, there are smaller online stores that specialize in certain styles, or even one style, that carry tracks you won't find virtually anywhere else. The trick is developing a list of these smaller outlets and rotating through them, so you check them at least once a month. You would be amazed at the songs and mixes you can dig up.

By going to the right sites and listening to their incoming new releases, I decide if something is worth playing, using just my own judgment, not because I saw it on some other DJs chart, or it was made by someone famous or because it is near the top of the sales chart. Who made a track means nothing to me when I listen to it. In the past year I could have listened to 50 releases from someone and thought they all stunk but, I might love release number 51. You don't know until you listen So, I always start with an open mind and, I am even pulling for the artist who has always disappointed me. Of course, along the way, I also figure out some artists who almost never make a track I don't like, but even they don't get a pass and I'm just as critical, if not more critical, because of my high expectation. I also am part of an online network where I legally exchange promos that aren't for sale anywhere, with other DJs & artists.

So, having been on the radio close to 2,000 hours, what you, the listener, get from me, are the results of a DJ with way more experience than usual, in what programing makes a good radio show. A DJ who exclusively uses the judgment developed from those years of experience, to pick the newest hot dance music, and has a long track record of picking out hot songs well before they are popular. I don't play it safe by just playing a bunch of already popular songs by well known  artists. I'm not simply a human jukebox. Instead, I take you into the future of music, keeping you at least one step ahead of the crowd. Yes, occasionally I will play something on the top of the charts, but only because I was playing it before it got there. So, If you aren't adventurous, just want to be safe and cling to the top of the charts, then I'm probably not for you. But, playing it safe, by playing only already proven music, that is exactly the mentality that gives us the mediocrity of top-40.

Before I ever went on the radio, I knew things didn't have to be that way. I grew up in the New York City radio market where certain FM stations constantly broke unknown bands. (They usually didn't stay unknown for long.) I knew I could tell a song that would be popular before it was, and figured (correctly) I wasn't the only person who could do that but, it was a skill not everyone had. At the commercial FM station I worked at, the music director asked me "How do you consistently play artists, six months before I have ever heard of them". I answered "Because I'm a DJ, that is what I do." It is a skill you either have or don't. Most people don't, but some do. Clearly the better DJs and the people who sign bands to labels have that skill. Like any talent, it can be improved through practice and I have had plenty of that but, to a certain extent you are born with it. Fortunatly I was and I could write a long list of bands I was listening to, before most people had heard of them.

Through a combination of an open mind and developed natural judgment, I deliver  you a very eclectic mix show, representing virtually every style of electronic dance music, coming from a wide range of established & breaking artists from around the globe and including special promo tracks not available for sale. I spend a considerable amount of time searching and researching, in order to collect this music for your enjoyment. I have enjoyed and been searching out new and different music since I before was a teenager and it is still one of my favorite things about DJing.

While choosing and knowing how to get the best tracks is important, so is the ability to properly blend and present the music. My many thousands of hours of programming and mixing experience, have given me the insight of how to put a show together. All those years of making mix tapes, being a resident DJ at now legendary clubs and appearing at everything from clubs and events, to laid back pubs, along with years of doing radio shows, have all sharpened my presentation and mixing skills. I am to the point where I can even mix styles together that many people say can't be mixed. I do it routinely and have it sound interesting and quite different from most other DJs. Knowing the right music, the right order and the right way to blend the ingredients, so you end up with more than just the sum of it's parts, is the trick. That is knowledge that can only be gained through experience and I use that experience to take you on a musical journey few can match.

A couple of years ago, I switched to Pioneer CDJ digital decks, and have never been happier. I'll always like the Technics 1200 vinyl turntables but, the future is the future. Lets put it this way, a beautifully restored 1932 Ford Model A pickup is magnificent but, if I need to haul a big load of lumber, an hour down the highway in the heat of summer, I'll take a brand new fully loaded Ford F-150 pickup with A/C and a sound system. That is the difference. Many people want to argue digital vs vinyl. Vinyl is great but, it is a technology who's time has come and gone. It is like candle's and light bulbs. The light bulb didn't kill the candle, just replaced it in daily use because it is more convenient. However, the thing to remember with digital is, you get what you pay for, and Pioneer CDJ and Denon decks are pricey for a reason. It will be a few more years until high quality, reasonable cost digital decks are a reality. For people starting out on a budget, you will learn so much more about real DJing from vinyl and turntables, than from using DJ software. I was lucky, in that I had to learn on vinyl. Then when I took what I learned from years of vinyl and applied it to the CDJs, now I have an insane amount of control over the mix. A DJ who learned on vinyl will basically always have an advantage. I don't think vinyl will go away but, there is so much new material not pressed on vinyl, it would be hard for someone to be an all vinyl DJ anymore.

I am pleased to be working at Party95, Your Global Dance Channel, part of the established and respected TuneIn network. With internet radio rapidly taking over as the #1 way to broadcast,  You can listen to Party95.com on any computer, at home or at work, or even on the go. Party95 has it's own iOS app for iPhone and iPad as well as one for Android devices or listen with almost any mobile device, like a cell phone. All these devices now tie into most new car's electronics so, you can listen while driving as well. Add to that the fact it goes world wide and suddenly, regular radio or even satellite radio has more than met it's match. The fact that someone driving down the road or hanging out at home in South America, Asia or Europe is able to enjoy my mix show programing is mind blowing and a long way from my start on college radio at WFIT where you were lucky to broadcast 25 miles in any direction. Granted competing for listeners on a world wide basis is more of a challenge. However, it is one I feel more than up to as I am confident my combination of experience and skills as a music programer and DJ are on par with anyone's. Different people have different tastes, so you can't please everybody but, I'm sure my wide variety and consistent quality will appeal to most listeners. However, I have cut back on my DJing, because after releasing singles and producing two albums for another band, I'm making an album of my own, along with various style remixes to go with it.

I enjoy DJing, and there are only few things I enjoy even more, and one of them is producing music. As there are only 24 hours in a day and you have to sleep or you will go bonkers (I know… it's to late.) I have had to cut down on both DJing on Party95 and out at clubs and events, to be able to have the time to make my album. DJing is still useful as you need to keep in touch with current trends in music so, the research I do into the cutting edge of hottest dance music for the show, serves a double purpose of keeping the music I make, in tune with where modern music is at, and making a good  show. So, I won't stop completely but I'm to busy to do more. There are many hours of sets from the show, posted without commercials or or talking on the music archive page on this site:

Enter the Archive, otherwise keep reading

So drop by any Saturday afternoon from 4-5PM ET so you can enjoy the hottest dance music out there on the cutting edge. Where you and your friends are always on the guest list and the future is now.
