THE BOB DAY MUSIC VAULT

In addition to my large collection of recordings of myself DJing different types music, I have a decent collection of recordings of other DJs doing their thing. This page is where I will post some of my recordings of other DJs for downloading. There is some truly classic stuff I will be posting here. For example, check out this amazing set to kick this page off with:

WFIT-FM Scrambled Eggs Mix 09/01/90
Labor Day Weekend 1990

Here is an extraordinarily splendiferous episode of WFIT-FMs epic early Saturday morning live mix show called "The Scrambled Eggs Mix". The shows time slot was 8AM to 10AM. Some may find that a strange time slot for a dance mix show but, I suspect a large quantity of the listeners hadn't gone to sleep the night before anyway and I know many of the DJs hadn't. (You can tell by how grouchy Andy is that he sure hadn't.)

For those who remember the show, this will bring back great memories and for those who don't, it will give you a small glimpse into the zany, cutting edge, nationally recognized, award winning, whacky world that was WFIT-FM, in the prime it's of it's greatness & insanity. If I ever write an autobiography, the chapter about my years at WFIT would certainly be one of the best, one of the most interesting and one of the most unbelievable of all. If you are ever bored and see me around, just ask me to tell you a WFIT story, I have a ton of them, each funnier than the last. (The story about Andy Hughes, Meister Ebb and the new copy machine immediately comes to mind, with the note on Jungle Jon's desk saying "Don't look up", followed by the Andy Huge? fiasco.)

Your host for "The Scrambled Eggs Mix" show is Meister Ebb, who is, quite simply, totally beyond description, both as an on-air personality and, quite frankly, in real life as well. To say he adds character to the show would be putting it mildly. Ebb was not a club DJ and does not mix but adds play by play commentary, much like a deranged sports announcer. In his spare time, Meister Ebb's hobbies include surfing, being an engineer for NASA and drinking beer. (Although not necessarily in that order.)

The Scrambled Eggs Mix weekly DJ lineup would vary but the main DJs were Andy Hughes and Jimmy Velcro. On Labor Day Weekend 1990 they invited Kimball Collins and Dave Cannalte in to join in as guest DJs on the mix team. I'm not really sure that Kimball and Dave knew precisely what kind of mayhem they were walking into, or if they would have actually shown up had they known but, I do know, in the end, they had a good time. I'm sure they are still wondering, to this day, who the hell that Meister Ebb dude was.

Being recorded in the fall of 1990, there is some seriously old school music in this show. This is just about as old school as it gets. Any more old school and you would of had to crank start the school bus. A year before this show, all these DJs were spinning industrial and new beat as house and techno didn't fully catch on to the underground in Florida until 89/90.

You may wonder where I was during all this and the answer is asleep. I set my Hi-Fi VCR the night before to record, so I could get a few hours of needed rest. However, I did make it to the radio station by the end of this show and joined Jimmy, Andy, Dave Kimball, Meister Ebb and a few others that morning for an after show breakfast.

So here it is in it's entirety, the WFIT-FM Labor Day Weekend 1990 Scrambled Eggs Mix Show with your host Meister Ebb and DJs Jimmy Velcro, Andy Hughes, Kimball Collins and Dave Cannalte:

Andy Hughes spun at Producers with me on 9/24/11. After having my Bob is Back party there, we figured we would give it a shot and do a weekly event, as there is no mandatory closing time. We had some good nights and a lot of fun. However, were never able to attract enough people to make it worthwhile. The club itself had a reputation we were unable to overcome, along with not having been remodeled in twenty years. It was entertaining, but didn't make sense financially. I have some of my sets from there posted in the archive and this one of Andy is in the vault as this is where I keep recordings of other DJs.
